Almost perfect
I had the pleasure of being able to spend 5 days at the Funken Lodge and have a meal. Except for small things the stay was perfect. All attacked employees super nice and helpful and open-minded and cosmopolitan. The food, both at breakfast and in the restaurant and bar delicious. Only the bed (stacked mattresses) was a bit slip-prone. Housekeeping also forgot a rag once. So I give 4.9 points !

Very high level.
Excellent level in everything, from the cleanliness and order of the rooms to the haute cuisine with fine dining ending with Davide, an extraordinary Italian barman who delighted us with his unforgettable cocktails.
A way to enjoy the Svalbard experience in Longyearbyen at its best with costs that are not as exaggerated as you might think.

Fabulous hotel
What a fantastic hotel. From the moment we arrived we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here.
We loved the boot room and putting on our slippers before going upstairs into the main part of the hotel. Reception is upstairs too. That caught us out when we first arrived. A group of weary travellers were all standing at a tiny unmanned desk for a few minutes until a member of staff came downstairs and said' Reception is up here."
Our stay included bed and breakfast. The room was cosy and had everything we needed and so much more. Everywhere we looked there seemed to be another little gift. Sewing kit, toothbrushes, face cream, it was so exciting!
When I say the hotel was cosy I mean hot. We turned the heating off in our room and were still perfectly comfortable, we even opened the window when it wasn't too windy. That isn't a complaint by the way, just an observation. How awful would it have been if it had been too cold?
On our first night we stayed at the hotel and ordered bar food, a steak sandwich and crab mac and cheese. Oh dear God, I thought I'd died and gone to heaven - actually, I thought that a lot on this trip. Yes, it was eye wateringly expensive - the trip and the food but worth every single penny.
Breakfast was a joy, for a start, let's talk about the views before we even get to the food. We must have looked like simpletons gawping out of the windows just repeating, "It doesn't look real". We received a warm welcome from the staff as we arrived and the dining room itself was welcoming, relaxed and comfortable. The food was laid out on the counter or you could order omelette or poached eggs from the table. Everything was delicious. This was an international buffet of delightful food. I've never had barley porridge before. It was great!
There is a lovely little gift shop with prices comparable to prices in town. The reception and bar staff were all lovely; friendly, informative and helpful. It would be impossible to single anyone out.
In short, if you are coming to Longyearbyen I would highly recommend staying at Funken Lodge.
