Hotel Areca offers a free spa with pool. It is 5 minutes’ drive from Alicante Airport and 8.5 km from the beach. Alicante city centre is 20 minutes’ drive from the hotel.

More than expectation.
A really lovely hotel with a superb restaurant. Staff are lovely, helpful, courteous and one man in particular had a great sense of humour without going over the top and kept it to a minimum. Reception staff were also very helpful, courteous and patient. Would I go there again? Absolutely I would. I found it to be very comfortable, meeting all of my particular needs without costing a huge amount of money. I actually can’t wait to go back!

Poor handling of issue
I rarely leave negative reviews, but unfortunately my experience at Hotel Areca was very disappointing.
The room itself appeared clean and comfortable, but on the morning of my departure I was unable to have a hot shower. I tried both the shower and the sink tap, in both directions, and the water remained cold. As I had an important meeting to attend, I contacted reception immediately to report the problem and was told someone would come to the room.
Unfortunately, I had to leave before the issue was resolved, meaning I had to attend my meeting without being able to shower. Regardless of what may have happened after I checked out, at the time I needed to use the facilities they were not working as expected.
What disappointed me most was the way my complaint was handled afterwards. Rather than accepting that I experienced a genuine issue, the hotel repeatedly suggested that I had simply become confused because the taps operate in reverse. As someone who had tried both directions and simply wanted a working shower, I found this response dismissive and quite insulting.
To make matters worse, when I said I intended to leave an honest review of my experience, the hotel responded by referring to possible legal action for defamation. I found this completely unnecessary and intimidating, particularly when I was only seeking a reasonable resolution and a partial refund for not receiving the service I paid for.
I fully accept that the hotel may have tested the shower later and found it working. However, that does not change the fact that, during my stay, I was unable to get hot water when I needed it. A simple acknowledgement of my experience and a small gesture of goodwill would have gone a long way.
Sadly, it was the handling of the complaint—not just the lack of hot water—that left the biggest negative impression.

Overnight stop before taking a cruise from Alicante port
Hotel is lovely. Garden area to sit in the shade on hot days is nice. Room really comfortable. Places to eat and drink are a short distance away. Airport close by so really convenient if you are taking an early flight. The only down side for us, was at breakfast time. Two parties of school children were not looked after by their teachers and it was clear the hotel staff were not geared up for the amount of people taking breakfast. I’m sure it’s a one off, but the hotel needs to prepare better when there are lots of people eating breakfast

Dorm life near the airport terminal
If you are seeking a hotel that whispers “luxury” and “pampering,” keep driving. However, if you are looking for a place that says, "you have either an early morning, or late flight, and I am physically near the airport,” then the Areca Hotel is your spiritual home.
Our own room was a masterpiece of minimalism; and by minimalism, I mean there wasn't a single soft furnishing, picture, or splash of color to be found. It was a white-walled sanctuary of 'basic' and functional decor. The layout is equally scholarly, featuring a desk and chair positioned directly beneath the TV, perfect for those who want to pretend they’re studying for a finals exam while secretly watching Spanish game shows!
The real 'highlight', however, was the bathroom. In a bold architectural choice, they decided that doors are far too overrated. The bathroom is completely open to the bedroom, providing a front-row seat to anyone using the shower. It’s certainly one way to fast-track intimacy with your traveling companion! Unless you know your partner 'very' well (or are particularly proud of your loofah technique), you might find yourself staring very intensely at those blank white walls while they wash!
Our particular room (308) overlooked a busy road, so we were kept well-informed of Elche’s traffic patterns throughout the night. We also enjoyed the early-morning "Symphony of the Bin Lorry" below our window—no need for an early morning wake-up call then! This was followed by a breakfast buffet that felt like "feeding time at the zoo," courtesy of several loud children's water polo teams. I’ve never seen such high-octane energy over a cereal dispenser, or fully understood the trading value associated with small cartons of 'nutella' chocolate spread!
The verdict: Perfect for a pre or post-flight crash pad. Just bring earplugs and a travel companion you know 'very' well.

Thank you for your detailed review, it’s great to see that our “airport-adjacent experience with extras” didn’t go unnoticed.
Regarding breakfast, it’s true that in a hotel it’s practically unavoidable to encounter groups and, in this case, children. We all know what that’s like: although this particular group was actually very well-behaved, boundless energy tends to come as standard… and sometimes it seems to include a turbo boost, especially near a cereal dispenser.
We’ve taken note of your other comments too: from our “extreme zen minimalism” to the open-plan bathroom concept (not exactly ideal for early-stage relationships, we know), and the unexpected nightly urban soundtrack. We’re glad that, at the very least, we managed to make your stay… hard to forget.
We hope to welcome you again when you need a practical, functional stopover and who knows, perhaps with a little less “live entertainment”.
