Good quality food

Good quality and tasty food in the restaurant. Went for the vegetarian menu and the chef very nicely adapted to make it vegan for us. The service was very good and friendly staff. Would go back again although the menu was quite limited. Nice wine menu too.

Quaint with poor drains

We booked for 2 nights but only stayed 1. The front of the premises was pleasant but there rear was somewhat neglected. The room was basic but there again wasnt expensive. The en suite facilities were very basic and when you ran a tap or flushed the toilet the overpowering smell of drains was terrible.
The restaurant was very "French Hotel" and the menu had local dishes on it. We went for the fixed 3 course which promised much but was OK, the wine we chose was very good and well priced . Breakfast was excellent with a good choice. I don,t know if our experience was typical but we didnt stay a second night and wouldnt stay there again

Very good for an overnight stop

We stayed for one night on our way from the UK to Spain. We had not booked but chose the hotel en route using the excellent Logis directory.
The hotel itself is a typical 'quaint' French hotel situated in a very lovely part of France.
Our room was pretty basic but adequate for an overnight stay.
The strength of the hotel is its restaurant which serves up some very good, locally sourced food. I had a starter of hare terrine followed by pigeon breast, both excellent. We also had a delicious 'amuse bouche' which was tiny but delicious.
As previous reviewers have pointed out, the breakfasts are lovely, again featuring local products.
Would we stay there again? Certainly.

Good food in a quiet location.

The room was comfortable and everything worked but the bathroom needed updating. We opted fpr the half board option when we booked which restricts the choice at dinner but everything was well prepared, tasted good and was very enjoyable. There were two large party's in the dining room and one tabel of 12 people seemed to be locals who came along just for the food which seemed to me to be a recommendation. This was our 2nd visit as an overnight stop returning to England from Spain and we found it ideal for that purpose. I would say that the breakfast is one of the best we have had in a French hotel, lots of fresh fruit, homemade yoghurts and jam plus local honey. Overall realy good value for money.

Old rural French hotel with excellent restaurant

We booked a room by phone as we were running late and when we turned up we thought we'd made a big mistake Auberge du Rascalat looked old fashioned and needing a bit of TLC. Our car being the only one in the car park didn't make things feel better, but as time passed the car park filled and things livened up.
The well presented restaurant, which was clearly where the effort had been made, was pretty full for dinner resulting in service being a bit slow, however the waitress was extremely helpful and friendly, and her recommendations where excellent. For the cheese course she suggested we each the cheeses we chose in a particular order because of their strength, very helpful and something I've never had before and a very nice touch. The mid price fixed menu was delicious.
We were first down to breakfast and were confronted with a large 'buffet' table laden with home made preserves, fruits, nuts, breads, cereals ,yoghurts, and fruit compots - I have not seen such a wonderful selection for years anywhere!
Le Rascalat is handy for the Tarn Gorge and the remarkable Millau Bridge - don't be put off by appearances, it is well worth a stay..
