I lived in Livingstone for 3 mnths with my boyfriend in one of the poor compounds - Linda. I love L/stone. It is small but nice town. Much friendly than Zambian capital Lusaka. There is everything you need, less people, nice park, Shoprite, some museums. Dont have to be afraid of street gangs. And the main city is surrounded by many poor compounds which are worth to visit for those who wants to see real Africa. It is worth to visit not just coz of close Victoria Falls.
This is Zambia's adventure and activity capital. It's a must for anyone traveling in the area. The staple attraction of Livingstone is Victoria Falls but there is so much to do here. The bungee jump, gorge swing, jet boat, and some of the world's best white water rafting are a taste of the adventure sports available. Mosi-ao-Tunya national park offers game drives with plenty of game. There are lion walks or elephant back safaris if you want to get a bit closer to the local fauna. There are scenic cruises on the Zambezi river, helicopter and microlite flights over the falls. There is a little something for everyone. Plus, Livingstone has accommodation and restaurants available for the discerning luxury traveler to the budget conscious backpacker and everything in between.
A very understated town besides a few audacious all-inclusive resorts that serve fly-in, fly-out tourists. There are a myriad of hostels here that have been recommended to me, and it is the launching point for everything from bungee jumping, to rafting to fishing for the monster tiger fish. It is also the only place for many moons of traveling with anything more than the most basic tourist infrastructure. So take advantage of the internet and other amenities.....oh, and of course go see the falls!
