Medieval walled town with gated entry still there, and old monasteries. Also very good shopping!
Did stay too long, but it was pleasant to be there. People were nice and welcoming and i like the atmosphere of the city.
Amazing cathedral, you can sit and relax for a while. And after that, great places to eat near by! I recommend Pork&co, awesome!
Roman and Norman ruins and streets lined with pretty timber-framed 16th and 17th century houses – Canterbury is a city steeped in history and rich in visitor attractions. Take a guided tour of the magnificent Canterbury Cathedral, the oldest in England and the jewel in the city’s sparkling crown. The world-famous cathedral took a grisly place in history when Archbishop Thomas Becket was murdered here in 1170 – hence its historic attraction to pilgrims. The cathedral forms one part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site trio; the ancient ruins of St Augustine’s Abbey and St Martin’s Church forming the other two and not to be missed! Other ancient ruins such as the Castle are reminders of the city’s history, heritage and culture. There are a number of interesting museums including the fascinating Roman Museum, The Beaney House of Art & Knowledge, The Canterbury Tales, The Kent Museum of Freemasonry and Canterbury Heritage Museum, home to Britain’s beloved cartoon characters including Bagpuss! Take in the town on a guided walk or experience the city’s beauty and history on a wonderful river trip by boat or punt with Canterbury Historic River Tours. The Canterbury Punting Company also does a spooky river tour, complete with lanterns. Enjoy some retail therapy in the quaint shops, explore the cobbled streets of the old town and experience the fantastic eateries to keep you fed and watered as you explore.
