An Oasis in Marfa

The Thunderbird Motel is an incredible hidden gem in Marfa, Tx. The owners have put a lot of thought into making it a fun and comfortable home base for exploring the area. I loved the pour over coffee from the local roaster next door. The rooms have plenty of space - especially the bathroom! We loved cooling off in the pool at the end of the day. And the lounge was a perfect place to recharge in some AC between concerts for the Viva Big Bend Festival.
We needed to contact the after hours management twice, and they were incredibly fast and super responsive. We really felt very taken care of.
I can't wait to get back to this oasis in Marfa!

Great place to stay in Marfa

We loved our stay here! The motel rooms are basic but have everything you need, including a small fridge (no freezer) and a separate lounge with tv and popcorn. The pool was refreshing after long hot summer days--it's not heated, but in the summer that's just fine. We made s'mores using the fire pit on the patio before seeing the Marfa lights, just 15 minutes away. You can walk from the hotel to pretty much anywhere you want to go in Marfa. The A/C was adequate, though the room never got super cool, and the first room we were given had an A/C so loud it was irritating, but we were given another room that was fine. Worth the price.

Great find.

We had a lovely stay at the Thunderbird hotel. It was a great space - the rooms were clean and well kept - the pool was nice. It was a really great vibe - walking distance to some great coffee spots and dinner. I would definitely recommend this little gem. The only reason I didn't give it a 5 is because the room was a little warm - we weren't able to adjust the air for a family that likes sleeping in a little cooler temperature.

Repurposed very well and fun!

Love that they took an old motel and instead of landfilling it, reconstructed it into a very clean, aesthetically pleasing and comfortable space. The old courtyard parking is now a desert garden with pool. Interiors had lots of thoughtful touches. Thick walls mean quiet rooms. The mini-splits kept temps perfect. Staff were helpful and accommodating.
A little expensive, but that’s Marfa.

Fun little remodeled motel, good location

Loved the place-was quite a surprise! Attention to detail was great, room was charming, front desk friendly. Things to improve: options for pillows (current ones so fat, uncomfortable for side sleepers), towels are thin and worn. Things that can’t improve but caused me to not 5 star the overall experience: do not stay in two story on ground floor. Kids above me stomping night and day. Location close to train track (ear plugs provided, thank goodness!)
